RTX 4060 vs RX 7600 for GTA 6: Which GPU Should You Actually Buy?

Rockstar hasn’t officially revealed the PC requirements for Grand Theft Auto VI yet, but one thing is already clear: GTA 6 is going to be demanding. With massive city density, advanced lighting, realistic NPC systems, and likely heavy ray tracing features, PC gamers are already preparing for the upgrade cycle.

For most mid-range buyers, the battle comes down to two popular GPUs: the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 and the AMD Radeon RX 7600.

Both cards target 1080p gaming. Both are relatively affordable. And both have strong points. But when it comes to a game like GTA 6, the better choice isn’t as obvious as raw FPS numbers.

The Short Answer

If your main goal is to play GTA 6 smoothly with modern features enabled, the RTX 4060 is probably the safer long-term choice.

The RX 7600 offers better raw raster performance per dollar in many games, but the RTX 4060 pulls ahead in areas that are becoming increasingly important:

  • DLSS 3 Frame Generation

  • Better ray tracing efficiency

  • Lower power consumption

  • Stronger driver support in newer AAA titles

  • Superior video encoding for creators and streamers

That said, the RX 7600 is still a very solid GPU — especially if pricing in your region makes it significantly cheaper.

Why GTA 6 Could Be Different From Previous GTA Games

GTA 5 launched in 2013. The gaming industry was completely different back then.

GTA 6 is being built for:

  • Current-gen consoles

  • Fast SSD streaming

  • Advanced lighting systems

  • High NPC density

  • Huge open-world simulations

Rockstar is clearly pushing realism much further this time.

One important detail many people overlook: both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X rely heavily on AMD hardware architecture.

At first glance, that sounds like a huge win for AMD GPUs like the RX 7600.

But PC optimization is rarely that simple.

Modern PC ports increasingly rely on AI upscaling technologies like DLSS and frame generation systems to achieve high frame rates at demanding settings. That’s where NVIDIA currently has a noticeable advantage.

RTX 4060 Specs Overview

Key Specifications

  • 8GB GDDR6 VRAM

  • DLSS 3 + Frame Generation

  • Excellent power efficiency

  • Strong ray tracing performance for its class

  • Typically uses around 115W

The RTX 4060 gets criticized online because its raw generational improvement over the RTX 3060 wasn’t massive. But that criticism often ignores how useful DLSS 3 has become in modern AAA games.

Games like:

  • Cyberpunk 2077

  • Alan Wake 2

  • Black Myth: Wukong

already lean heavily on upscaling and frame generation to maintain smooth gameplay.

GTA 6 will likely follow that trend.

RX 7600 Specs Overview

Key Specifications

  • 8GB GDDR6 VRAM

  • Strong rasterization performance

  • Usually cheaper than RTX 4060

  • FSR support

  • Around 165W power draw

The RX 7600 performs extremely well in traditional gaming workloads.

In many rasterized titles, it competes very closely with the RTX 4060 and sometimes even beats it slightly.

For pure FPS-per-dollar gaming, AMD has been very aggressive with pricing.

But there are two important concerns for GTA 6 buyers:

  1. Ray tracing performance

  2. Upscaling quality and adoption

DLSS vs FSR Could Matter More Than Raw FPS

This is honestly where the conversation gets interesting.

Raw performance used to be everything. Today, software ecosystems matter almost as much as hardware.

NVIDIA DLSS 3

  • Better image reconstruction

  • Superior motion stability

  • Frame Generation support

  • Widely adopted in AAA games

AMD FSR

  • Works on almost any GPU

  • Improving quickly

  • Easier for developers to implement

If Rockstar supports DLSS 3 properly, the RTX 4060 could deliver much smoother gameplay than expected despite its modest raw horsepower.

That’s especially important for:

  • Dense city driving

  • Large online sessions

  • Heavy traffic areas

  • Ray-traced lighting environments

Frame Generation won’t magically fix a weak GPU, but it absolutely changes the experience in demanding games.

VRAM Concerns: Is 8GB Enough for GTA 6?

This is the biggest concern with both GPUs.

Modern AAA games are starting to push beyond 8GB VRAM at ultra settings, especially at 1440p.

Games like:

  • The Last of Us Part I

  • Hogwarts Legacy

  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

can already stress 8GB cards under certain settings.

That doesn’t mean GTA 6 will be unplayable on 8GB GPUs. It just means you may need to avoid:

  • Ultra texture settings

  • Heavy ray tracing presets

  • High-resolution texture packs

For 1080p gaming, both GPUs should still handle GTA 6 reasonably well.

For 1440p ultra settings long-term? That’s less certain.

Ray Tracing: NVIDIA Still Has the Lead

Rockstar loves cinematic visuals.

If GTA 6 introduces advanced ray tracing features like:

  • RT reflections

  • RT global illumination

  • RT shadows

then NVIDIA’s advantage becomes more noticeable.

AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture improved ray tracing, but NVIDIA still performs better in most RT-heavy games.

If you care mainly about competitive FPS numbers with RT disabled, the RX 7600 remains excellent value.

If you want the “max visual experience” approach, the RTX 4060 is stronger.

Power Efficiency and Heat

This part matters more than people think.

The RTX 4060 is extremely power efficient. It runs cooler, quieter, and requires less PSU headroom.

RTX 4060

  • ~115W typical gaming power

RX 7600

  • ~165W typical gaming power

That may not sound massive, but over long gaming sessions:

  • Lower heat = quieter system

  • Less strain on PSU

  • Better for smaller builds

  • Lower electricity usage

For budget PC builders, efficiency can genuinely improve overall system quality.

Streaming and Content Creation

If you stream gameplay, edit videos, or create YouTube content, NVIDIA currently has the better ecosystem.

The RTX 4060 includes:

  • NVENC encoder

  • Better OBS integration

  • Superior AI tools

  • Strong creator software support

AMD has improved a lot, but NVIDIA still dominates creator workflows.

For someone planning to make GTA 6 gameplay videos, clips, or streams, that’s worth considering.

Which GPU Will Age Better?

This is probably the most important question.

The RX 7600 may look better in some current raw FPS charts.

But modern gaming trends increasingly reward:

  • AI upscaling

  • Frame generation

  • Better RT hardware

  • Software ecosystems

That plays directly into NVIDIA’s strengths.

The RTX 4060 feels more “future-ready” despite its controversial launch reputation.

Final Verdict

Buy the RTX 4060 if:

  • You want the safest long-term GTA 6 experience

  • You care about DLSS 3 and Frame Generation

  • You use ray tracing

  • You stream or create content

  • You want lower power usage

Buy the RX 7600 if:

  • It’s significantly cheaper in your region

  • You mainly care about raw 1080p FPS

  • You don’t care much about ray tracing

  • You want strong value-per-dollar

The Real Recommendation

If both cards are similarly priced, the RTX 4060 is the better overall package for GTA 6.

Not because it’s dramatically faster today — but because modern AAA gaming increasingly depends on technologies where NVIDIA currently leads.

However, if the RX 7600 is available at a noticeably lower price, it becomes a very compelling option and will still likely run GTA 6 well at optimized settings.

The smartest move right now may actually be waiting until Rockstar officially reveals GTA 6 PC requirements. GPU pricing changes constantly, and newer mid-range cards could launch before the PC version arrives.

But between these two cards today?

The RTX 4060 feels like the safer bet for the next era of AAA gaming.
